Create Your First Network
A network is a logical grouping of nodes that work together. Create your first network to get started.
What is a Network?
Networks help you:
- Organize nodes by environment, region, or project
- Isolate workloads between teams or applications
- Manage permissions with role-based access
- Deploy pipelines to groups of nodes
Common patterns:
- One network per environment (dev, staging, prod)
- One network per geographic region
- One network per team or application
Create a Network
- From the Expanso Cloud dashboard, click Create Network
- Enter a name:
my-first-network - (Optional) Add a description: "My first Expanso network for testing"
- Click Create
The network is created instantly and appears in your dashboard.
Network Details
Click on your network to see:
- Nodes: Edge nodes connected to this network
- Pipelines: Data pipelines deployed to nodes
- Activity: Recent events and changes
- Settings: Network configuration
Right now your network has no nodes. Let's fix that!

Tips
Naming conventions: Use descriptive names like production-east, dev-testing, or iot-sensors
Multiple networks: You can create multiple networks to organize different environments or projects.
Delete networks: Networks can be deleted from the settings page (nodes must be removed first).
